About What suburbs of dallas are the most "family friendly" areas? Should we avoid certain ones

What suburbs of dallas are the most "family friendly" areas? Should we avoid certain ones?
My boyfriend, our 1 year old, and I are moving to the dallas area at the end of January. My boyfriend is going to be working in Plano, TX. I am looking for work in Dallas... so we want to be somewhere maybe between those. Also, what is the weather like in the area? I am moving from Wisconsin- I am hoping to escape the snow ;o)

Answer 1 :
You will escape the snow for sure! We had a little sleet last night and it was COLD for us (wind chill was in low 20's). You will maybe get snow or ice once or twice a year. The problem then will be all of us who don't know how to drive in that weather. Usually schools and businesses will shut down on those days. He is actually working in a great family area. Anywhere in Plano (especially the further west you get) is great for families. You can also look up in Frisco, Allen or McKinney (all north of Plano) or Richardson (directly south). If you get a job in downtown Dallas there is a train (DART) that will take you right to downtown from Plano. Unfortunately, I would avoid most anything in the Dallas Independent School Districts. There are a few exemplary schools in that school district but they are all in mostly expensive areas.
Answer 2 :
Plano is a good choice for you- there are lots of nice apartments in West Plano near the tollway which can get you go many areas in Dallas quite quickly. Plano and Dallas are next to one another for the most part. Another choice would be East Plano where you could get on the DART rail if you need to.
Answer 3 :
I'm not gonna win "best" answer with this, but as a Dallas native I thought I would throw my hat into the Plano bucket. Very family-friendly, DART access like they said above, and don't forget about the schools. The PISD (Plano Independent School District) has garnered some rich acclaim, especially in their athletics and arts programs. Lots of good restaurants, too. Affordable, chain-type stuff. As to the other half of your question. Anecdotally I would say to avoid Garland. Bless'em, I'm sure it's a great place, but my wife lived in Garland for years and she HATED it. I trust her opinion, so I'd stay away from Garland.

About what is good place to rent 2BD apartment near Plano

what is good place to rent 2BD apartment near Plano?
I've been recently relocated to work in Plano,Tx with my family , wife and two kids ( they're below school age). I'm looking fro reasonable place to rent 2bd apartment. I'm not looking for an expensive one because my job requires a lot of travel for 3 to 4 months most of the time. so I'm looking for one that is at affordable rent and near to Plano ( with in 15 miles) or one with month to month lease with affordable rent. any suggestions from people who live/d in Plano,TX ? also any temporary furnished apartments with good prices is appreciated Thank you

Answer 1 :
Ask this question on the Plano, citydata website. Check if Plano has an online newspaper and go through the rental ads. There are always extended stays if you don't find a place in time, sometimes easier so you can decide on your new neighborhood when you get there to see for yourself.
Answer 2 :
Find the best short term housing here. https://sites.google.com/site/corporatehousinglisting http://www.getcorporatehousing.com http://www.apartmenthomeonline.com
Answer 3 :
It would be hard for you to get a month to month lease, as most property managers or landlords want you locked into a minimum one year lease. You might look into renting in other towns around Plano, like Frisco, Allen, Lewisville, Carrollton, etc as the rents may be lower. Depends on where you want to be in Plano, as it is quite spread out. Again, I don't think any apartment complexes will rent to you on a month to month basis. You could try looking at duplexes. In Frisco you can probably get a 2/2 duplex for $750 per month. You can get lower rent, but the property will probably reflect the price. Try looking or advertising on Craigslist. I get a some of my renters from there. Wish I had something to offer you! (Although I have some 2/2 duplexes, mine are closer to $1000 per month)

About Cheapest place for an inspection sticker in TX (Dallas or Plano)

Cheapest place for an inspection sticker in TX (Dallas or Plano)?
My inspection sticker is due this month in Dallas county. I live near Plano but work in Dallas, so I am wondering what is the cheapest place to take my car around Northeast Dallas, Plano (east of I-75) or the Plano/Frisco border. Thanks. I know that prices are usually the same, but in the past few years, I have seen some places offer discounts. I am wondering if that is still the case and if someone has noticed a place offering a discount.

About best place to live between bedford, tx and plano, tx

best place to live between bedford, tx and plano, tx?
we are moving to the dfw area in a couple of months and looking for a house to rent. my husband will be working in plano and i will be working in bedford, so we'd like to split the commute. we'd consider living in the suburbs or in dallas itself, but the neighborhood has to be SAFE. thanks for any advice you can give.

Answer 1 :
Bedford and Plano are quite a distance apart so even if you live "in the middle" you'll both have a good drive to work. You could look in Valley Ranch which would be closer for you or Carrollton which would be closer for him. Both are good areas to live in. Hope you can find what you're looking for.
Answer 2 :
consider grapevine/southlake..look em up!!
Answer 3 :
Frisco, or Las Colinas. However, Grapevine though it is closer to bedford, like right next door, is a nice area. With good schools.Las Colinas is kinda expensive. Frisco, is a up and coming little area. It is closer to Plano. There is also Denton. Good luck and enjoy the area

About Where does an electronic (RFID) toll booth scan your car to charge you for driving on a toll road

Where does an electronic (RFID) toll booth scan your car to charge you for driving on a toll road?
I work in Plano TX and don't have a tolltag or a front license plate. Do the overhead electronic thingies scan the rear license plate as well as the front if there is no toll tag? Or where do they scan and how in the first place? I've searched the net and it tells me nothing. Any help would be appreciated!
Commuting - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Typically such a system is referred to as "active" RFID in which the toll transponder (the module you stick to your windshield) constantly emits an RF signal and is powered by a large capacity battery). Very large patch panel antennas mounted above the toll booth lanes are able to "listen" for the toll tag's signals, thus when you drive under them, your account is debited (or charged or however the system works in Plano...in the Bay Area, San Fransisco, the account is debited) Look for large square and/or rectangular panels above the roadway. Those are the RFID antennas. The RFID antennas do not scan your license plate and do not have the capability to read an automobile's license plate. If you were to drive through the toll lane without a transponder, a combination of sensors buried under ground detecting the presence of an automobile/truck (by weight) will activate a camera which will then take a picture of your car and license plate. Having said that, I've known people that have for years driven through those booths without a tag and got away with it. Isn't entirely a fool-proof system. But if one gets caught, then the fines are stiff! Hope this helps.
Answer 2 :
Being a fellow Texas resident I can tell you that those overhead electronics automatically send a photo of both front & rear plates to the toll road authority if there is a toll tag problem (suspended, doesn't exist, not matching, etc). It might also take a photo of you as well, not sure about that tho. I don't have one of those tags either so I don't ever chance using the EZ-tag (I'm near Houston) only lanes/roads. I found some vague info here: https://www.hctra.org/ in the FAQs. Next time you're near one of those toll tag booths...look at the overhead electronics. If its like the ones in Houston, you'll see a set of lights and cameras aimed at the front and another set aimed at the rear. The toll tag itself "The EZ TAG is a small transponder that communicates electronically with a computer in the lane you are using via radio frequencies. As you approach the lane, the EZ TAG will be registered and the appropriate toll based on your roadway usage will be subtracted from your account within 24 hours"...according to the Harris County Toll Road Authority

About What's the best neighborhood for young professsionals in Dallas

What's the best neighborhood for young professsionals in Dallas?
I am a 22 y.o. student graduating in a few weeks and relocating to the Dallas area for work. I will be working in Plano but want to live closer to the city near other young professionals. I have heard rent is pretty high in Uptown/Downtown. Where is a good place to live outside of these areas with affordable (under $1000 for 1bed) rents?
Dallas - 3 Answers

Answer 1 :
Addison is a great place to live. It is on the Tollway right to Downtown. I have lived here for 8 yrs. $10 lifetime membership to the Athletic center. Best of luck
Answer 2 :
My daughter who is a single, young professional lives and works in Plano. She loves it. She has a large, very nice 1 BR apt. near Preston & Park (across the street from million dollar homes, literally). $850 a month at LaVentura Apt. My neice is a single, young professional who lives in Uptown and pays over $1,100 for less sq. ft., but it's nice there too. So either Plano or Uptown would be a nice, safe place for a young woman to live. Welcome to the area.
Answer 3 :
You'd have the best of both worlds in Plano or Frisco ... very nice towns, with good shopping, restaurants & housing - low crime rates - and just a short drive to downtown Dallas..

About Is there a mentoring program for people working in Plano, TX

Is there a mentoring program for people working in Plano, TX?
I am looking for someone to help me in professional growth and my company offers no role models.
Careers & Employment - 1 Answers

Answer 1 :
One of the best ways to find a mentor is to look at local churches and ask someone who has achieved the success you are looking to achieve. You will likely find someone with ethics and integrity who can guide you without leading you down roads with false hopes or unethical behaviors. Most people are honored to be asked to be a mentor. Simply tell him/her what you are looking for and that you believe that he/she can offer a great deal of valuable information and you'll almost always receive a favorable response

Answer 1 :
Yes, that will work. I've used a similar lens, originally intended as a camera close-up attachment, to construct a Galilean telescope. It's not optimized for that use, so you'll get a bit extra spherical aberration, but considering the amount of chromatic aberration you'll get, that hardly seems to matter.
Answer 2 :
You already have the lens, so why not try it and see? It will work, but it will also show why we don't make telescope's like Galileo's any more

I'm volunteering too. Well just call them, let them know that you want to volunteer, and they should have a junior volunteering program or atleast a program for volunteers.
Answer 2 :
you go to those places and do something
Answer 3 :
call em also ymca takes volunteers
Answer 4 :
Plano wow! Well try calling the places also try volunteering at homeless shelters and animal shelters/pounds.
Answer 5 :
Plano may not be the easiest place to find charity work for poor people... Also, 13 may be a young age to be out with the harsher elements of life. I'd try contacting the local pet stores to work as a volunteer with the local ASPCA or equivalent. You can help out with the orphaned cats and dogs
