About I am deeply upset with a recent encounter with police, I think I was discriminated against - what should I do

I am deeply upset with a recent encounter with police, I think I was discriminated against - what should I do?
Today I was driving home from a nice park at 9:00 p.m. Just after sunset - I live in Dallas, but I work in Plano, Texas - an upscale part of the Metroplex - I was sitting at the park after work having a smoke (tobacco)... JUST before I exited the Plano Jurisdiction into the neighboring city, Richardson - an entire circus of lights lit up behind me... I look in the mirror see 5 police cars - apparently they were following me for the past several miles. Background: I drive a very old Volvo station wagon, and I am dark skinned. I pulled over into a residential district and they surrounded my car - lights blazing... A female cop approaches the window and asks me to step out of the car - didn't even ask my for my license or anything - just made me step out of the car... I see another three cops (all white) they step out of their cars - they administer a sobriety test over and over – I passed it like three times, and the cops take turns giving me the test… by now there are like three police officers directly involved with me, and two cop cars just sort of parked around my car in the front and two behind me – I really couldn’t tell… The female cop meanwhile asked if they could search my car, by now there are five cops at the scene – I was completely frightened and intimidated seeing as how there were a whole bunch of cop cars behind me – I said yes (knowing I don’t have anything) – although I was starting to shake out of nervousness. The cops all questioned me, asking if I had been smoking marijuana, if I was on any drugs, if I had been drinking… They kept administering a sobriety test (it’s like each cop took their turn)… Then one of the cops just started searching me, stuck his hands in my pockets, under my shirt, etc – didn’t even ask, just kind Don't tell me they were doing their job - you don't need five cop cars to do what they did... I'm just so pissed off... didn’t even ask, just kind of flipping me around… like: “I’m gonna ask you again, you have any drugs blahblahblah).” The dude was HUGE – he was gigantic… They asked me so many questions: where I was from, where I was going, etc… I answered all the questions… All in All, I was detained for about 40 minutes until the cops told me I could go... When I get back to my car I find that the female officer doing the search had left a mess – my ash tray was spilled out, the contents of my glove box were on the seat… Overall, I don’t think they had any reason to stop me let alone search me – I was driving fine – they didn’t even ask me for insurance or DL – I think they were just picking on me… They let me go because I had nothing – and who ever called was definitely lying – perhaps he/she saw a brown guy in a beat up car driving through a white neighborhood – I don’t know… All I know is that I am upset at the way I was treated, talked to, and handled by the Plano police department -

I'm so sorry you had an experience like this. I cannot even imagine how you remained calm. You need to contact a lawyer and find out if you have a case. Those police officers should be held accountable for what they did. Even if you aren't looking for a monetary gain from this, you should still report it.
Answer 2 :
Im sorry to tell you bud but theres nothing you can do. Cops are going to be cops and they will always win no matter what you do or say. If been arrested twice for deffending my self with witnesses all around saying i did not start anything . But, still i ended up in jail for a night. Enough about me though. It might of been a good thing that they stopped you now because you are in there recrds and they probably typed in there computer that they couldn't find anything. But, if something like this happenes again then you should deffinetly look into talking with some of the locals that are a little well know around town. Hope i helped
Answer 3 :
Sure sounds like they got a huge ego to satisfy, sadly the problem is getting worse and worse, You guys got it rough in Texas too http://www.badcopnews.com/category/texas/ On a lighter side, Texas and Florida are topics here too, lots of stuff, goofy and important http://www.fark.com/
Answer 4 :
I don't see anything that even suggests it was because of your race. In many parts of the world it is routine for police to show up in herds for minor or routine incidents. I can't count the number of times I have seen 5 or 6 squad cars reporting to an incident that only requires one unit. If any call comes in over the radio it seems like every officer within a 5 mile radius who is not otherwise occupied feels compelled to respond. You, of course, will argue that you were not driving in an erratic or suspicious manner. They, of course, will respond that you were driving in a suspicious manner or will say that they received a call describing a driver similar to yours. They always make this claim. I assume that they get a lot of calls where someone says, "I'd like to report a human being driving a car with 4-wheels acting in a suspicious manner within a 5 mile radius of the city." You clearly fit that description. Unfortunately, filing a lawsuit against the police to claim that the stop was unjust is almost impossible to win. You can't prove gross negligence. You can't prove willful intent. You can't prove racial profiling. Even if you could, you have no damages. You were detained and inconvenienced for a short period and then sent on your way. Even reporting the incident for police conduct isn't going to get you anywhere because it doesn't come close to qualifying as any violation of the code of conduct for an officer. It's just one of those annoying things that officers do as part of their normal routine when they really should be patrolling high crime areas looking for rapists and murderers.

About Decent job in Plano, Texas

Decent job in Plano, Texas?
Does anyone know a place that is hiring in the Plano area that works with a school schedule?
Dallas - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Lived in Plano since 1966.... Seems like part time work is the most flexible, unless you can do contract work. I have a license in Massage Therapy (don't work it - just "hobby" basis right now), and if I did that type of work, it is very flexible (working for a business like Massage Envy or Independent MT). I work at a college, and our part time instructors are able to work a schedule that works with their kids' school schedules. Receptionist work for a Real Estate firm can be flexible, as they can have part time work to answer phones - and weekend work, too. Retail has some flexibility, but their pay is historically awful. If you can contract yourself out by capitalizing on some skills that you have? Like? Childcare, petcare, programming, transcriptions typed up for doctor's offices - their medical notes, general office work from typing to filing, bookeeping for a small business.... Think of the natural and experienced skills you have attained thus far in your life. If someone walked up to you and asked for your help in something you did well - what would that be? I always felt that I could teach someone stuck in stick-figures to draw 3 dementional. I really believe that..and you can, too...believe in yourself along some area of expertise that you can offer to a small business, individual, or corporation! Don't give up, when I came to Plano, the population was around 13,000...now they are 250k+, so employment has certainly moved up; you should be able to find something really good in short time! Good luck - brush up your resume to highlight your 'special' skills, and get to knockin' on them doors! 062508 5:27
Answer 2 :
try any restaurant and costco, sams, target, home depot, lowes etc.... good luck

Answer 1 :
The children's section of the library. A McDonald's that has an indoor playground.
Answer 2 :
Go to a mall
Answer 3 :
Allen has a recreational indoor pool with a lot of amenities for families. http://www.cityofallen.org/parks/natatorium.htm not free, but reasonable.....Adult$5, Senior $3, Youth (3-17yrs.), $4 Youth (2 yrs. and under)Free Maybe the surrounding cities offer something similar?? The mall makes you want to spend $$ and kids don't understand why they can't buy things.....:( McDonald's is ok, but can get old really fast. The library is a great idea, most of them offers "reading time" for the little ones. Check out this: http://www.aroundtownkidsplano.com/ You could alternate ideas, so as not to get bored. Maybe you can find a church to start going to.....they always have activities going for parents, families, and kids. That way, you get your time and the kids get theirs....you might even meet new friends with some good people and then you can spend time with them?
Answer 4 :
Allen has a big McDonalds off hwy 75. Try the public library.
Answer 5 :
Libraries, Heard museum exhibits

About Which school districts have a better special education program - Frisco or Plano

Which school districts have a better special education program - Frisco or Plano?
We're in PISD but are getting ready to move. I know a little about other schools in PISD but nothing about schools in Frisco. Are there any schools in either district people like or, more importantly, don't like? Are there schools that are more inclusive of sped kids, unique service offerings, easy to deal with during the IEP process, etc.? From our perspective, Bethany Elm in PISD has been a dream to work with. Thanks for your help!
Special Education - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Call the districts, ask them. Ask to speak with teachers in the district about the programs they offer. The more willing they are to speak with you about this, the more likely they are easy to "deal" with during IEP process

About How is the traffic in Texas

How is the traffic in Texas?
I would like to know how bad the traffic in in Texas around Dallas. If someone lived in Allen, Rockwall, or Plano and worked in Dallas how long would the commute be?
Commuting - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
the traffic will be heavy during commuting times, but unless an accident happens, it moves fairly well. traffic in north, east and south from the east into dallas isn't too bad, but if you are going downtown, or to the west side towards mid-cities it's pretty bad until you get past the downtown mish-masher. if at all posssible go around the south loop, and avoid the north and central area freeways.
Answer 2 :
depends on your route in from these areas...but more than likely an hour or so. traffic in am and pm 6a and 7p can be a bitch! and as long as there are no accidents traffic will keep plugging along. the news channels start about 4-5 am with traffic reports for commuters. good luck!! and it's MIX MASTER

i am a nurse rn, 10 years icu exp. any good hosp in plano north dallas area to work at ?

Dallas - 3 Answers

Answer 1 :
Presby Plano is excellent. My SIL is a head nurse for her department at Baylor Plano and really likes it there as well. The only downside to Plano is very snooty demanding clientele, however in ICU I don't think it would be much of a factor as it is in her department. Stay away from Tenet-owned hospitals, their turnover is high because employee morale is low due to management issues.
Answer 2 :
My sis-in-law works down at Presby Hospital off of Meadow Lane in far North Dallas (which is only 5 or so miles from Plano). She is a Labor & Delivery Nurse, and has been there for pushing 20 yrs now, I bet. I would suggest that you talk with some doctor's offices in the area, and see what the staff says their boss works at and why. They may have some insite as to which hospitals are easier to work with (paperwork and scheduling surgeries). If the same hospital keeps getting repeated with positive claims, then perhaps that is one to look into. Another avenue to entertain is to contact some of the community colleges or universities. If they have a nursing program, then their dean may have some insite as to the way the hospital is managed and open to persons with your background. You might even check into employment with a college or university! The community college I work at has a nursing program, and has positions for instructors come up now & again... Then again, you can always check into working with a group medical practice as their nurse on staff. The smaller group may be more rewarding to you than being lost in a crowd of tons of nurses at a large hospital. Since there are tons of medical facilities in this area, you should have your pick. Best to you! Great career! 062508 5:45

About What suburbs of dallas are the most "family friendly" areas? Should we avoid certain ones

What suburbs of dallas are the most "family friendly" areas? Should we avoid certain ones?
My boyfriend, our 1 year old, and I are moving to the dallas area at the end of January. My boyfriend is going to be working in Plano, TX. I am looking for work in Dallas... so we want to be somewhere maybe between those. Also, what is the weather like in the area? I am moving from Wisconsin- I am hoping to escape the snow ;o)
Dallas - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
You will escape the snow for sure! We had a little sleet last night and it was COLD for us (wind chill was in low 20's). You will maybe get snow or ice once or twice a year. The problem then will be all of us who don't know how to drive in that weather. Usually schools and businesses will shut down on those days. He is actually working in a great family area. Anywhere in Plano (especially the further west you get) is great for families. You can also look up in Frisco, Allen or McKinney (all north of Plano) or Richardson (directly south). If you get a job in downtown Dallas there is a train (DART) that will take you right to downtown from Plano. Unfortunately, I would avoid most anything in the Dallas Independent School Districts. There are a few exemplary schools in that school district but they are all in mostly expensive areas.
Answer 2 :
Plano is a good choice for you- there are lots of nice apartments in West Plano near the tollway which can get you go many areas in Dallas quite quickly. Plano and Dallas are next to one another for the most part. Another choice would be East Plano where you could get on the DART rail if you need to.
Answer 3 :
I'm not gonna win "best" answer with this, but as a Dallas native I thought I would throw my hat into the Plano bucket. Very family-friendly, DART access like they said above, and don't forget about the schools. The PISD (Plano Independent School District) has garnered some rich acclaim, especially in their athletics and arts programs. Lots of good restaurants, too. Affordable, chain-type stuff. As to the other half of your question. Anecdotally I would say to avoid Garland. Bless'em, I'm sure it's a great place, but my wife lived in Garland for years and she HATED it. I trust her opinion, so I'd stay away from Garland.

About what is good place to rent 2BD apartment near Plano

what is good place to rent 2BD apartment near Plano?
I've been recently relocated to work in Plano,Tx with my family , wife and two kids ( they're below school age). I'm looking fro reasonable place to rent 2bd apartment. I'm not looking for an expensive one because my job requires a lot of travel for 3 to 4 months most of the time. so I'm looking for one that is at affordable rent and near to Plano ( with in 15 miles) or one with month to month lease with affordable rent. any suggestions from people who live/d in Plano,TX ? also any temporary furnished apartments with good prices is appreciated Thank you
Renting & Real Estate - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Ask this question on the Plano, citydata website. Check if Plano has an online newspaper and go through the rental ads. There are always extended stays if you don't find a place in time, sometimes easier so you can decide on your new neighborhood when you get there to see for yourself.
Answer 2 :
Find the best short term housing here. https://sites.google.com/site/corporatehousinglisting http://www.getcorporatehousing.com http://www.apartmenthomeonline.com
Answer 3 :
It would be hard for you to get a month to month lease, as most property managers or landlords want you locked into a minimum one year lease. You might look into renting in other towns around Plano, like Frisco, Allen, Lewisville, Carrollton, etc as the rents may be lower. Depends on where you want to be in Plano, as it is quite spread out. Again, I don't think any apartment complexes will rent to you on a month to month basis. You could try looking at duplexes. In Frisco you can probably get a 2/2 duplex for $750 per month. You can get lower rent, but the property will probably reflect the price. Try looking or advertising on Craigslist. I get a some of my renters from there. Wish I had something to offer you! (Although I have some 2/2 duplexes, mine are closer to $1000 per month)
